Police, UNIUYO collaborate to strengthen security

The Police Command in Akwa Ibom says it is working in synergy with university of Uyo (UNIUYO) to strengthen security within the university community.

The Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, stated this on Monday in Uyo when he visited the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Ekong.

Azare said that the visit was part of the command’s
strategic engagements with key stakeholders across Akwa Ibom.

“This visit is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration between the police and critical institutions within the state,” hee said

He further said that the visit aimed to deepen mutual cooperation, strengthen information-sharing, and promote a safe and secure environment for the people.

The commissioner reiterated the need for a strong and sustained partnership between the police and the academic community.

“This synergy becomes more critical following the strategic roles that universities play in the development of the society,” he said.

Azare expressed the commitment of the police to effective crime policing and protection of lives and property within and around the university community.

He said that the command would continue to work closely with the university community to prevent crime, respond promptly to security concerns, and maintain peace and order.

The police chief further stressed the need for proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, effective communication, and early identification of emerging security threats.

“Security remains the collective responsibility of all of us. We seek the cooperation of the public. We encourage timely sharing of relevant information,” he said.

Responding, Ekong thanked the police official for the visit, and commended the command for its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state.

Ekong said that building a cordial relationship between the university and the police was critical to the maintenance of law and order within the university community.

He stated that a secure academic environment was essential for effective teaching, learning, research, and institutional development.

Ekong said that the visit reinforced the shared commitment of both institutions to building a safer and more secure academic environment.
