The Kano State House of Assembly has been thrown into mourning following the sudden deaths of two of its members, Aminu Sa’adu Ungoggo and Aliyu Sarki Daneji, who reportedly passed away just hours apart on Wednesday.

Ungoggo, who was the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, was the first to die. He reportedly slumped and passed away at the Assembly complex after a brief illness while on official duty.

The death was confirmed in a statement issued by the Speaker’s spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, who said the lawmaker died in active service to the state.

“The late Hon. Aminu Sa’adu Ungoggo died while on duty at the Kano State House of Assembly. He is survived by his wife and children,” the statement said.

Moments later, news also emerged of the death of another lawmaker, Aliyu Sarki Daneji, compounding the grief within the Assembly and across the state.

Speaker of the House, Jibril Falgore, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Ungoggo’s death as a major blow to the legislature and the people of Kano.

“Hon. Ungoggo’s passing comes at a critical time when the people of Kano needed his experience, dedication and service the most. This is an irreplaceable loss,” the Speaker said, while extending condolences to the families of the deceased lawmakers, their constituents and colleagues.
