Davido joins uncle Adeleke’s Accord Party

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has formally announced his decision to join the Accord Party, aligning politically with his uncle and Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.
Davido disclosed this in a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, where he revealed plans to travel to Osogbo, the Osun State capital, to collect his Accord Party membership card.
“I will be live in Osun to pick up my @AccordPartyNG membership card @ Imole House, Osogbo, tomorrow… see you soon accordingly,” the singer wrote.
The announcement comes barely two weeks after Governor Adeleke officially unveiled the Accord Party as his new political platform ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.
Governor Adeleke had formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on December 9, 2025, at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Osogbo, citing an unresolved leadership crisis within the party at the national level.
Speaking at the event, the governor explained that he joined the Accord Party after weeks of consultations with political stakeholders and opinion leaders across the state.
“I joined the Accord Party on November 6 as a platform to seek re-election in 2026. This decision followed extensive consultations and careful deliberations,” Adeleke said.
He added that the party’s philosophy of welfarism aligns with his administration’s focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare.
Davido had earlier reacted to his uncle’s resignation from the PDP by reposting the announcement on social media with the caption, “Jeje…”.
The singer’s decision to formally join the Accord Party has generated widespread reactions on social media, further highlighting the growing intersection between celebrity influence and political participation in Nigeria.
