Senator Lawal Adamu Usman, representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has officially resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a resignation letter submitted to the PDP Chairman of Unguwan Dosa Ward, Kaduna North Local Government Area, the lawmaker cited irreconcilable leadership crises and a persistent lack of strategic direction at the party’s national level as the primary reasons for his departure.

Senator Usman, who has been a prominent figure in the state’s political landscape, acknowledged the opportunities the PDP provided him to serve his constituents and the nation. However, he stated that the ongoing internal conflicts within the party have severely undermined organizational cohesion, making it increasingly difficult for him to contribute effectively to the party’s objectives or fulfill his duties as an elected representative.
“The crisis rocking the party at the national level, which I would describe as irreconcilable divisions marked by persistent leadership crises and an absence of clear direction, has fundamentally undermined cohesion within the party,” Usman noted in his letter.
He emphasized that his decision to step aside was made after extensive reflection and is rooted in a commitment to integrity and the necessity of effective public service.
This resignation represents a significant political development in Kaduna State, occurring amidst a period of intensifying political realignments ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
As a serving senator, Usman’s exit highlights the deepening instability within the opposition party in the North, potentially altering the balance of power in Kaduna Central as political actors begin to reposition themselves for future contests.
As of this report, the Senator has not yet announced his next political affiliation.
