The Joint Revenue Board (JRB) has extended its congratulations to the Government and people of Abia State following the historic passage of the Harmonised Taxes and Levies Bill into law by the State House of Assembly.

The legislative milestone, achieved on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, is being hailed as a major breakthrough in the administration’s efforts to reform revenue collection and improve the ease of doing business in the state.

The new legislation, which is currently awaiting the assent of the Executive Governor, marks a decisive departure from the era of unregulated revenue drive.

Once signed into law, it will effectively abolish the menace of illegal roadblocks and dismantle the structures that have fueled multiple taxation, a long-standing complaint among business owners in the region.

In a statement praising the development, the JRB noted that the law mandates the deployment of technology to ensure transparency in the tax system.

By simplifying tax processes and automating collection, the state government aims to improve voluntary compliance and significantly boost investor confidence.

The Board expressed optimism that these bold reforms will strengthen the state’s internally generated revenue while accelerating socio-economic development across Abia.

The Joint Revenue Board further commended the exemplary collaboration between the Executive arm, the Legislature, and the Executive Chairman of the Abia State Internal Revenue Service in bringing the bill to fruition.

The Board highlighted that this synergy aligns perfectly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s national tax reform agenda, demonstrating a shared commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance at the sub-national level.
