A State High Court in Ado-Ekiti has adjourned the trial of Akogun Abayomi Olumide, the former Chairman of the Ekiti State Microcredit and Enterprise Development Agency.
Olumide, widely known as Lustay, faces several grave charges filed by the Ekiti State Government, including conspiracy to commit robbery, armed robbery, attempted murder, unlawful possession of offensive weapons, and malicious damage.
The legal proceedings follow a turbulent few months for the former aide. Governor Biodun Oyebanji dismissed Olumide in August 2025 citing alleged gross misconduct.
He was later arrested on New Year’s Day 2026 by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
Olumide has maintained his innocence throughout, characterizing the prosecution as a politically motivated attempt to silence him.
He asserts that the charges are a direct consequence of his refusal to withdraw support for Engr. Kayode Ojo, a prominent aspirant in the 2026 Ekiti State governorship race.
The defendant’s health has also become a point of concern.
Currently held at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre, Olumide was recently hospitalized due to diabetic complications.
Supporters have attributed his deteriorating condition to harsh detention environments, leading to his recent transfer to the prison clinic.
During the most recent hearing, the prosecution, led by Oluwaseun Olasanmi, requested more time, noting that she did not yet have the necessary documents to move forward.
Defense counsel Adedayo Adewunmi concurred with the need for an adjournment to ensure the prosecution could produce the required filings.
Justice Omotosho, presiding over the case, cautioned the state to ensure all relevant documents are prepared promptly to avoid further delays.
The matter has been adjourned to February 4, 2026, for further hearing.
The case continues to draw political scrutiny. Loyalists of Engr. Kayode Ojo have publicly condemned the proceedings, alleging a broader pattern of unjust arrests and harassment targeting his supporters, a trend they describe as a violation of democratic norms.
