Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has declared her determination to clinch the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket for the upcoming election in Ogun State.

During an appearance on Frontline, an interactive program on Eagle 102.5 FM in Ilese-Ijebu, the former senator expressed confidence in her candidacy while acknowledging the competitive nature of the race.

She noted that no aspirant can claim absolute certainty of emerging as the party’s flagbearer.

“I’m as confident as anyone else,” Obasanjo stated. “Everybody is politicking. There is no reason why I shouldn’t be out there if I want the post. It isn’t 100 percent guaranteed for anybody, including me, but I will do everything I can to ensure I am the candidate.”

The former lawmaker recently returned to active politics following a tenure in academia abroad. She argued that her experience, resolve, and commitment to governance provide her a distinct edge in the contest.

Addressing the long-standing debate over regional zoning, Obasanjo pledged to support a successor from Ogun West following her potential tenure. While acknowledging the frustrations of the western senatorial district which has historically sought the governorship she maintained that her immediate priority is securing the seat herself.

“I am very sensitive to the aspirations of the people in the West and I understand their position. I know what we need to do to ensure the governor after me is from the West. Yes, after me because I am going to win.”she said.
