Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed profound gratitude to Nigerians for their prayers and solidarity following a disturbing incident at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) office in Benin City.
In a personal statement, Obi highlighted the difficult situation facing the families of distinguished elders and former Edo State governors, Chief John Oyegun and Professor Oserheimen Osunbor, while asserting that the global support he received has strengthened his commitment to building a better Nigeria.
Obi drew a parallel between current events and his past experiences, noting that the lawlessness and insecurity he witnessed in Anambra years ago were the primary catalysts for his entry into the governorship race.
He maintained that leadership must serve to restore order, security, and public trust, warning that the growing lack of accountability across the country requires people of goodwill to step forward with responsibility rather than fear.
Citing Plato, he cautioned that the price of refusing to participate in governance is to ultimately live under the rule of those unfit to lead.
The statement served as a call to action for Nigerians to remain resolute in electing leaders defined by competence, character, commitment, and compassion.
Obi emphasized that the nation deserves a peaceful, secure, and prosperous future, which can only be achieved through leaders who prioritize the collective good over personal power.
Reaffirming his signature slogan, he concluded that a “New Nigeria is POssible” through the courage and unity of the citizenry.
