…Publishes names on official website
The Independent National Electoral Commission has formally recognised Senator David Mark as National Chairman and former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, as National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress.
INEC, in its latest update, also validated the appointments of other interim officers of the opposition party, including Dr Mani Ibrahim as National Treasurer, Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary, and Professor Oserheimen Osunbor as National Legal Adviser.
The confirmation, published on INEC’s official website, brings closure to the leadership tussle that had divided the party for months.
Mark had been unveiled as interim chairman in July at the Yar’Adua Conference Centre in Abuja after the resignation of Ralph Nwosu, the party’s immediate past national chairman.
Nigerian NewsDirect reports that ADC’s National Executive Committee, in a letter dated July 29 and signed by Nwosu, informed INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu of its resolutions, granting the NEC authority “to exercise the powers and perform all the functions of the National Convention pending the next national convention.”
The correspondence listed David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, and 42 others as national officers.
Though former National Deputy Chairman, Nafiu Bala, had earlier rejected Mark’s emergence and declared himself the authentic acting chairman, INEC’s decision has now settled the dispute in favour of the Mark–Aregbesola-led structure.
