The immediate past governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has said he has no plans to contest any elective position in the 2027 general elections.

Ortom made the clarification in a statement issued on Saturday, signed by his Media Adviser/Consultant, Dr Terver Akase, and made available to newsmen in Makurdi.

The statement followed reports circulating on social media claiming that Ortom had declared his intention to contest the Benue North-West Senatorial seat in 2027.

“I have no intention whatsoever to contest any elective office in 2027. I have said this clearly, publicly, and repeatedly.

“I expect that a position stated this plainly would not require translation or creative reinterpretation,” he said.

The former governor reaffirmed his commitment to supporting democratic ideals, strengthening the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and offering statesmanlike guidance rather than pursuing elective office.

He urged the public to disregard the reports, describing them as “a fabrication.”
