The Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, has charged South-East leaders to be vocal in supporting Pres. Bola Tinubu, citing the President’s commitment to the region.
Umahi made the call on Thursday in Enugu while inaugurating completed portions of the Enugu–Onitsha Federal Highway.
The minister urged the zone’s political leader, Gov. Hope Uzodimma of Imo, to galvanise broader support for the President.
“All the governors of the zone are supporting the President, but we have to take the support down to the people.
“They have to be enlightened on Tinubu’s works for the region, and when we appreciate what he has done, he will do more.
“No matter what is being said about me, especially on social media, my voice will not be silent in promoting the President’s achievements,” he said.
He stated that the people should be grateful to Pres. Tinubu, noting that the administration has addressed longstanding concerns of marginalisation in the zone.
“This is the first time we are having the position of Minister of Works and two consecutive Service Chiefs from the region.
“I thank our people for their support despite rumours of my resignation as minister to contest for the Senate.
“This shows they understand the importance of this office, and I urge them to extend such support to the President,” he said.
Umahi further urged the people of the South-East to be strategic in voting during the 2027 general elections, noting that no fewer than 80% of their votes should go to Tinubu.
“The presidency is not secured through rhetoric but through strategic political engagement.
“When we support a South-Westerner now, others will support us when it is our turn.
“Tinubu has intervened in several infrastructural projects and policies that have impacted lives across the South-East,” he said.
