… Receives UK home office minister on courtesy visit

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, on Tuesday, reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to international and inter-agency collaboration in the fight against transnational crime. This statement came during a courtesy visit by the Honourable Lord David George Hanson, Minister at the United Kingdom’s Home Office, held at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja.
During the meeting, Lord Hanson highlighted the growing threat of transnational crime particularly fraud underscoring its impact on both the United Kingdom and Nigeria. He commended the ongoing cooperation between the UK Government and the NPF in tackling cybercrime and expressed optimism for deeper collaboration.
He also announced the UK Government’s intention to formalize this partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will provide a structured framework for enhanced cooperation.
In response, the IGP welcomed the initiative and described the visit as a testament to the strong and enduring relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom. He expressed gratitude for the UK’s continued support and emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration in addressing global security challenges.
He further proposed the establishment of a fellowship exchange program with the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA), aimed at fostering long-term capacity building and institutional ties.
The IGP reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s steadfast commitment to strengthening partnerships with international counterparts and relevant agencies, in order to reduce crime to its barest minimum and enhance public safety across borders.
