IBEDC apologizes to Band A customers over power shortfalls on feeders

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has issued a public apology to its premium Band A customers following widespread failures to meet the estimated hours of power supply on Thursday, March 21, 2026.

The distribution company attributed the severe service shortfalls to a cascade of technical and operational challenges spanning both the transmission and distribution networks.

According to a public announcement released by IBEDC management, the unmet service hours across multiple high-priority feeders were primarily driven by a combination of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) forced outages and TCN-mandated load shedding.

The disco further noted that localized distribution issues including IBEDC's own planned and forced outages, internal load shedding, overcurrents, and earth faults severely exacerbated the power crisis for residents and businesses relying on these premium lines.

The service disruption heavily impacted major commercial corridors and residential hubs across the company's franchise area, resulting in highly erratic service levels. For instance, customers on the Idofian 33kV feeder suffered one of the most drastic shortfalls, receiving only a single hour of electricity due to extensive TCN load shedding spanning several hours.

Similarly, the Ijeun GRA 11kV feeder recorded a mere five hours of supply, crippled by a combination of IBEDC load shedding and a forced outage stemming from the Owode Line II 33kV feeder.

While several Band A areas, such as those serviced by the GTB, Metafrique, and Owode Line II feeders, managed to retain up to 17 hours of service despite the grid's instability, the majority fell well below their premium service thresholds.

Notably, the distribution company confirmed that while power has been successfully restored to the vast majority of the affected technical feeders, the Moniya Railway 33kV feeder remains completely out of service. Unlike the grid instability and infrastructure faults plaguing the other lines, IBEDC clarified that the Moniya Train Station area recorded zero hours of supply due to an active disconnection for non-payment.

In its statement, the IBEDC management expressed sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused by the erratic supply.

The company reassured its customers that it remains deeply committed to navigating these grid bottlenecks and distribution challenges to consistently deliver the estimated hours of supply expected by its Band A consumers.
