I would have taken my music career more seriously before marriage’ — Gospel singer at 40

Gospel singer and entrepreneur, Damilola Olomolehin, popularly known as Damilolasings, has advised young women to pursue their purpose and establish themselves before settling into marriage, saying she would have approached her music career differently if given another chance.

The singer gave the advice while reflecting on her life journey during the celebration of her 40th birthday, where she was treated to a surprise celebration by family and friends.

Speaking at the event, Damilolasings admitted that marriage and childbearing slowed her music career at a crucial stage, although she has no regrets about her family.

“If I could speak to my 20 year old self, I would tell her to achieve some tangible goals before marriage. If I could rewind time, I would have taken my music career more seriously before settling down because once you get married and children start coming, it affects a lot of things,” she said.

Despite pausing her music career to focus on family responsibilities, the gospel artiste said she never abandoned her passion as she is currently combining music with entrepreneurship and her role as a project manager, describing herself as a “serial businesswoman.” Among her released songs are “ADURA MI” and “IKEJI MI,” which later featured as the soundtrack for a movie produced by actress Wumi Toriola.

According to her, she began singing as a child in the choir of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and frequently shares updates on her music ministry and other engagements through her social media platforms, including Instagram and TikTok (@damilolasings), as well as her YouTube channel (@damilolasings7321).

Expressing her appreciation for the surprise celebration, Damilolasings described it as one of the greatest expressions of God’s love through people.

“I wasn’t expecting this. I feel so honoured, so loved, and so blessed. God has blessed me with very good people. I always say that if you don’t have any gift, at least have the gift of men. If you have the gift of men, you have a lot, and that is exactly what is on display today,” she said.

Reflecting on four decades of life, the celebrant said her children, loyal friends and the gift of singing remain her greatest blessings, adding that humility, kindness and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit are the most valuable lessons life has taught her.

She also recounted surviving a near fatal road accident two years ago after ignoring what she believed were divine warnings, saying the experience strengthened her conviction that people should always pay attention to God’s direction.

“God speaks to us through the Holy Spirit, and we must learn to be sensitive because ignoring those promptings can have serious consequences,” she said.

Looking ahead, Damilolasings said she is trusting God for international opportunities and a breakthrough song that will take her music ministry to a global audience.

“I’m trusting God for international connections and that one song that will launch me to the next level,” she added.

Family members and friends described the celebrant as humble, caring, compassionate, and selfless, urging her to remain true to her values regardless of the fame and success that may come with her growing ministry.
