I have lost a true friend — Wike mourns Dan Orbih

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed sadness over the death of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Vice Chairman, South South, Chief Daniel Osi Orbih noting that he has lost a true friend.

Orbih, a prominent politician in Edo State, died on Monday, August 31, 2026, leaving behind his wife, Mrs. Florence Orbih, his children, Miss Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Dr. Mildred Omonemi Orbih, as well as his brothers, sisters and other members of his extended family.

Reacting to the death in a condolence message issued through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike described the deceased as a close friend and a committed political associate.

The FCT Minister described Orbih was a friend indeed, adding that his death represented a major loss to the political community in Edo State.

Wike described the late politician’s death as the “fall of one of the biggest trees in the political forest of Edo State,” stressing that his absence would be felt by many who knew and worked with him.

The Minister noted that his relationship with Orbih went beyond politics, describing him as someone whose qualities made him a dependable friend and associate.

“I have lost a friend and a committed political ally. Dan Osi Orbih was everything anyone could desire in friendship and political associate. But we can’t question God, He gives and He takes,” Wike said.

He also extended his condolences to the family of Chief M.C.K. Orbih, praying that they would find the strength to cope with the loss.

“On behalf of myself, my family and political associates, I commiserate with the family of Chief M.C.K. Orbih, on the demise of Chief Dan Orbih, a good friend, a great politician, and a man of faith in the Almighty God.”

Orbih was a notable figure within the PDP and had remained active in the political affairs of Edo State and the South South region. His death has therefore sparked mourning among political associates and members of his wider political circle.

Wike said the late politician would be remembered for his contributions to politics, his personal relationships and his commitment to those around him.

He prayed for the repose of Orbih’s soul and strength for his family, friends and political associates as they mourn his passing.
