Customs generate N1.38trn in two months

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has collected N1.38 trillion in revenue across July and August 2026, the service’s spokesperson announced on Tuesday.

Deputy Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer of the NCS, disclosed the figures during a joint security agencies briefing in Abuja.

He stated that the service generated N784.65 billion in July and N595.58 billion in August. Notably, the Apapa Area Command recorded N323 billion in July, marking its highest monthly collection to date. On August 18, 2026, the same command collected N28.1 billion in a single day, surpassing its previous daily record of N20.1 billion set in September 2025.

Maiwada attributed these milestones to technological adoption, streamlined trade facilitation, and enhanced border enforcement.

Over the two-month period, the service processed 90,985 Single Goods Declarations comprising 55,731 in July and 35,254 in August—alongside 8,873 Pre-Arrival Assessment Reports.

Export operations also showed significant expansion. The Lilypond Export Command handled $792.57 million in export trade value during the second quarter of 2026, representing a 24.35 percent increase from the $599.60 million recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year. Export container volume rose by 32.27 percent to 5,510 units.

Agricultural commodities accounted for $422.09 million of total exports, while manufactured goods nearly tripled to $350.67 million. Total revenue collected under the Nigerian Export Supervision Scheme (NESS) increased by 9.52 percent to N5.38 billion.

Additionally, between July 1 and August 26, the command facilitated the shipment of 9,322 containers loaded with agricultural produce, manufactured goods, solid minerals, and other export commodities.

On enforcement and anti-smuggling, Area Commands and Federal Operations Units intercepted contraband goods with a cumulative Duty Paid Value (DPV) exceeding N61.3 billion.

Major operations were recorded across the Adamawa/Taraba, Ogun, and Seme commands, as well as Federal Operations Unit Zone A, involving seizures of premium motor spirit, foreign parboiled rice, refined sugar, cannabis sativa, illicit cigarettes, elephant tusks, and other banned items.

Maiwada reaffirmed that inter-agency collaboration and sustained technological innovation remain central to the agency’s dual mandate of revenue mobilization and national border security.
