Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has revealed that he personally brokered peace and negotiated with top contenders within the All Progressives Congress (APC) to clear the path for the former governor, Gbenga Daniel senatorial bid in 2023 to represent Ogun East.

Speaking at a stakeholders meeting yesterday, Governor Abiodun said, “I know what I did for Governor Daniel to become a Senator. I know what my intervention was to get them to step down for him to emerge as Senator when the ticket was offered to him.”

He specifically mentioned Senator Lekan Mustapha as being among the frontrunners in that election cycle who was persuaded to withdraw their ambitions in favor of Daniel.

The Governor also recalled his long-standing loyalty and support for his predecessor, dating back to Daniel’s own gubernatorial emergence.

Abiodun noted that despite having run against Daniel in the past, he was one of the first to offer his support once the political tides shifted.

“I was one of the first to congratulate him, and I gave him all my structure. I delivered to him and I supported him,” Abiodun said, referring to past political cycles.

He further expressed disappointment over what he described as negative media attacks allegedly sponsored by the Senator’s camp, despite the history of assistance provided.

“If Governor Daniel now believes that the only way to repay me is to be sponsoring negative media attacks against me, I leave him to his conscience,” the Governor remarked.
