Gunmen kill mother, daughter in raid on Ondo community

Unknown gunmne have killed a mother and her daughter during what was believed to be an attempted abduction.

In the latest incident, the gunmen suspected to be kidnappers reportedly invaded the Igushin community along the Ala axis of Akure in Ondo State last week Thursday.

The attack adds to a growing pattern of violence being recorded across the South-West, where communities in Ondo, Ogun and Oyo States have continued to experience repeated cases of kidnapping, armed robbery and deadly assaults.

One of the earlier cases cited in ongoing security concerns occurred on 8th September 2021 in Kobape village, Abeokuta area of Ogun State, where staff attached to the Obasanjo Farms complex were reportedly abducted during a coordinated operation by armed men.

A police extract in October 2022 also detailed a violent assassination or kidnapping attempt on Mr. Benjamin Olajide Aluko in Ibadan as the assailants in a Nissan Micra intercepted his vehicle and opened fire.

Reports suggest these incidents may be linked to organized criminal syndicates operating throughout the Ibadan, Ring Road, Iseyin, and Igboora corridors of Oyo State.

Intelligence gathered from previous victims points toward the involvement of individuals with specialized backgrounds.

One suspect, identified as Saidi King, is alleged to be a former private security operative who was previously dismissed for professional misconduct.

As the investigation into the Igushin killings continues, the incident serves as a grim reminder of the urgent need for a more robust and proactive security framework in the region.
