Kwara: Police arrest 33 over attack on Eruku church

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 33 suspected members of a criminal gang linked to the November 20, 2025 attack on a Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.

The suspects, who were reportedly apprehended at multiple locations across Kwara State, are believed to be part of an organised network responsible for violent attacks in the region.

The operation, according to Police sources, led to arrests in areas including Gbugbu, Ora-Ago, Babanla, Kaiama, Awi, Charagi, Patigi, and Oke-Ode.

Security operatives also recovered weapons and communication equipment during the coordinated raids. The items include seven AK-47 rifles, one anti-aircraft launcher, an anti-aircraft rifle, seven magazines, 32 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, five walkie-talkie devices, and a camouflage hydration backpack.

Some of the arrested suspects were identified as Abubakar Usman (also known as Siddi), Ibrahim Sa’idu (alias Idi Soho), Adamu Mohammad (aka Baushe/Dogo), Abdullahi Abubakar (aka Bature), and other members of the gang.

The arrested individuals are among 50 suspects recently paraded by the police as part of ongoing nationwide operations targeting armed criminal networks.

The attack, which occurred at the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, had previously raised concerns over insecurity in parts of Kwara State.

According to reports the arrests form part of intensified security operations aimed at dismantling violent gangs and restoring public safety in affected communities.

Police authorities say investigations are ongoing, while the suspects are expected to be charged to court upon completion of interrogation and profiling.
