Ace broadcaster and Director of News at Television Continental (TVC), Babajide Otitoju has cautioned that any State governor who lacks the backing of their lawmakers faces a precarious political future.
Otitoju made the remarks on Sunday when he appeared on TVC referencing the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, where the House of Assembly initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Fubara.
He said, “Rivers House of Assembly wants to impeach Fubara’s deputy, even when they can’t really point out the offence she has committed. That’s why people think this is just a game meant to get the governor and deputy out of the way so that the speaker can become acting governor.”
Otitoju added, “The fact is clear. If you don’t have the support of the lawmakers, your days could actually be numbered. This was what happened to Balarabe Musa, who was governor of Kaduna State.”
His comments come amid rising tension in Rivers State politics, highlighting the crucial role legislative support plays in sustaining a governor’s administration.
