All is now set for the formal defection of Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Enugu, the state capital.
The move, confirmed on Thursday, is expected to see the governor cross over to the ruling party alongside members of the state executive council, lawmakers at both national and state levels, and political leaders from across Enugu’s 17 local government areas.
Speaking after inaugurating a seven-man caretaker committee for the Enugu APC, the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and Deputy National Chairman (South), Hon. Emma Eneukwu, hinted that Mbah’s defection formed part of wider efforts to consolidate the APC’s influence in the South East region.
Confirming the development, the newly inaugurated Enugu State APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, told reporters at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja that Governor Mbah and his loyalists would be formally received into the APC fold on October 14.
“The governor and his appointees will be officially welcomed into the party in a ceremony to be held in Enugu next Tuesday,” Nwoye said.
The APC National Working Committee had, earlier on Thursday, dissolved the state’s former executive and appointed the new caretaker committee to oversee party affairs ahead of the expected realignment.
