Gombe State Gov. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has reiterated his resolve to strengthen democratic governance by responding to the aspirations of the people, pledging support for the quest by Yamaltu/Deba stakeholders to produce the next senator for Gombe Central in 2027.
The governor stated this while receiving a delegation from Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area, comprising traditional and community leaders, politicians across party lines, technocrats, as well as youth and women groups, during a courtesy visit to Government House, Gombe.
The delegation sought his support to actualise their demand for equitable representation in the Gombe Central Senatorial District.
In response, Gov. Inuwa Yahaya assured the delegation that their request would be given due consideration.
“I assure you that I will take the necessary steps to ensure that you get equity, fairness and justice, not only in your LGA, but across Gombe State and Nigeria. By the grace of God, this time around, your aspiration will receive a positive outcome,” the governor said.
He emphasised that democracy must reflect the will and interests of the people, noting that inclusivity remains a core principle of governance.
“Democracy is a government of the people, by the people and for the people. In strengthening our democratic culture, we have embraced a rotational understanding that ensures every group feels included,” he said.
Gov. Inuwa Yahaya said both the government and the ruling party align with the request, describing it as valid.
“As a government and a party, we are aligned with your position. Your request is justified, and I will ensure it receives the attention it deserves. I am encouraged that you have formally documented your appeal addressed to Pres. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, leader of our party, and the National Chairman of APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda,” he said.
The governor recalled the trajectory of the Gombe South Senatorial seat, where unity and adherence to democratic principles shaped outcomes.
He urged the Yamaltu/Deba community to remain united and law-abiding in their pursuit.
Earlier, leaders of the delegation, including the Member representing Yamaltu/Deba Federal Constituency, Hon. Inuwa Garba; members of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Adamu Pata (Yamaltu East) and Hon. Muhammad Kabir Kuri (Deba Constituency); Chairman of Yamaltu/Deba LGA, Abubakar Hassan Difa; as well as the Emirs of Yamaltu and Deba, Alh. Abubakar Aliyu and Alh. Ahmed Usman, respectively, made a case for the rotation of the Gombe Central Senatorial seat to Yamaltu/Deba.
They argued that the seat has remained in Akko LGA for an extended period, stressing the need for equity, fairness and inclusivity in the distribution of political opportunities in the district.
