Fubara urges corps members to make impact in Rivers

Gov. Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers urged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to make noticeable impacts during their service year.

Fubara made the call during the swearing-in of the 2026 Batch C Stream I corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area, Rivers on Friday.

The governor was represented by Dr Promise Oguzie, Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

He also urged the corps members to uphold integrity, honesty, patriotism and the fear of God while serving the nation.

‘’Corps members remain a critical asset to the state’s growth and development, ‘’ he said.

Fubara urged the NYSC management to continue to introduce pragmatic reforms to keep the scheme relevant to the changing needs and aspirations of young graduates.

“The expansion of the scope and operations of the scheme’s flagship programmes will make it more impactful, relevant and acceptable to Nigerians,” he said.

The governor also charged the members to remain patriotic when engaged as ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission during the 2027 general elections.

Fubara said their conduct during the electoral process would be important in sustaining public confidence in the nation’s democratic institutions.

Earlier, Rivers NYSC Coordinator Moses Oleghe expressed confidence that the corps members were physically and mentally prepared to serve the country.

Oleghe said the members were also psychologically and emotionally prepared to make positive contributions to the state and their host communities.

He commended Fubara for approving the construction of 1,000-capacity hostels for male and female corps members at the orientation camp.

The state coordinator also appreciated the governor for approving the construction of a new NYSC state secretariat and coordinator’s lodge.

Oleghe expressed optimism that contractors handling the projects would soon be mobilised to site.

A representative of the Chief Judge of Rivers, Justice Frank Onyiri, administered the oath of allegiance to 3,414 corps members newly posted to the state.

Onyiri urged the corps members to abide by the rules and regulations of the NYSC scheme throughout the year.

“Corps members should contribute positively to the development of their host communities,” he stated.
