Fubara inaugurates hospitals, Air Force runway in Rivers
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has inaugurated a new General Hospital and an upgraded Neuropsychiatric Hospital with a 100-bed Rehabilitation Centre in Rumuigbo, as part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery and strengthen security infrastructure in the state.
Fubara disclosed this in a statement on Friday while reflecting on the projects inaugurated on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
According to the governor, the healthcare projects were designed to bring quality medical services closer to residents while improving the state’s capacity to respond to mental health and substance abuse challenges.
He said the upgraded Neuropsychiatric Hospital, which includes a 100-bed Rehabilitation Centre, would provide additional support for people dealing with mental health and substance abuse-related challenges.
The governor said the projects were part of his administration’s commitment to the wellbeing and prosperity of Rivers residents.
“In Rumuigbo, we inaugurated a new General Hospital and an upgraded Neuropsychiatric Hospital with a 100-bed Rehabilitation Centre,” Fubara said.
He added that the facilities would strengthen healthcare services and make access to medical care easier for residents.
Fubara also inaugurated the rehabilitated Nigerian Air Force Base runway in Port Harcourt, describing the project as an important step towards strengthening the partnership between the state government and the Armed Forces.
According to him, the rehabilitation of the runway would further support security operations and the protection of critical economic assets in Rivers State and Nigeria.
“We also inaugurated the rehabilitated Nigerian Air Force Base runway in Port Harcourt, reaffirming our partnership with the Armed Forces and our commitment to the security of Rivers State and the protection of Nigeria’s critical economic assets,” he said.
The governor expressed appreciation to the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mazi Afam Josiah Osigwe, SAN, for inaugurating the healthcare projects.
He also acknowledged the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, DFS, for inaugurating the rehabilitated Air Force Base runway.
Fubara said the two sets of projects reflected the administration’s broader focus on creating an environment where residents could live safely and access essential services.
He linked healthcare and security, saying both were necessary for the state’s development and long-term prosperity.
“Healthcare gives our people hope; security gives that hope, room to thrive,” the governor said.
He maintained that Rivers State was being positioned for sustainable progress through investments in critical sectors.
“This is the Rivers State we are building: healthy, secure and ready for sustainable progress,” Fubara added.
The governor’s latest projects come as Rivers State continues to pursue investments in healthcare infrastructure and security-related facilities, with the administration stressing the importance of improving living conditions and protecting the state’s economic interests.
The inauguration ceremonies brought together government officials, security personnel and other stakeholders, highlighting the connection between public health, security and economic development in the state.
