The former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy governorship candidate in Kano State for the 2023 general elections, Yusuf Dambatta, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Dambatta announced his resignation from the PDP and his move to the APC in a statement issued on Sunday, noting that the decision followed careful consideration and wide consultations with his political associates, supporters, and stakeholders.

He stated that the move was not taken lightly but reflected his desire to operate within a platform that would better support his contributions to governance and development in Kano State and Nigeria.

According to him, the APC offers a more inclusive political structure and a stronger commitment to public welfare, which heavily influenced his decision to join the ruling party.

Interestingly, Dambatta also expressed admiration for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s leadership and his “Kano First Agenda,” noting that it has focused on human capital development, infrastructure renewal, and improved governance in the state.

Despite his defection, Dambatta reaffirmed his commitment to public service, unity, and policies aimed at promoting peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.

He appreciated the PDP leadership and its members for the relationships built during his time in the party, describing his experience as meaningful.

Dambatta added that he looks forward to working with APC members and other stakeholders to support Kano’s continued progress and advance the state’s development priorities.
