The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening humanitarian interventions through deeper collaboration with international development partners.

Vice President Kashim Shettima disclosed this on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), led by Ms. Doris El Doueihy, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Senator Shettima emphasized that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is determined to address humanitarian gaps by engaging critical stakeholders to refine response mechanisms across the country.

He formally welcomed the ICRC’s proposal to establish a national humanitarian response mechanism specifically designed to manage the plight of victims of armed conflict.

The Vice President noted that the Federal Government is prepared to collaborate on the operationalization of this framework to ensure more efficient relief delivery.

In her remarks, Ms. El Doueihy praised Nigeria’s leadership in the region, particularly for domesticating the Kampala Convention for the Protection and Assistance of Internally Displaced Persons.

She described Nigeria as a continental model for humanitarian policy and affirmed the ICRC’s commitment to advancing support in health, water sanitation, and the training of security personnel in conflict zones.

The Vice President assured the delegation that Nigeria’s security forces would continue to adhere to international humanitarian standards in their operations.
