The Federal Government has strengthened collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria to promote accountability, financial discipline, and correctional system reform.
This followed a meeting between senior government officials and the 61st President of ICAN, Haruna Nma Yahaya, alongside members of the Institute’s executive team.
Discussions focused on the role of professional excellence, ethical standards, and institutional collaboration in driving national development, particularly in public financial management, revenue generation, and anti-corruption efforts.
Government officials need to transform Nigeria’s correctional centres from custodial facilities into centres of rehabilitation, where inmates can acquire practical skills and reintegrate successfully into society.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of accountability in governance, with emphasis on strengthening internal controls and improving financial transparency across public institutions.
Participants expressed alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that partnerships with professional bodies like ICAN will be critical in advancing reforms.
Areas of collaboration identified include financial literacy programmes for inmates and ex-inmates, capacity building initiatives, and improved grant management systems and both parties reaffirmed their commitment to sustained engagement aimed at strengthening governance frameworks and promoting inclusive national development.
