Former Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has released documents which he says support his claim that Oyo State Governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, received ₦50 billion from the Federal Government as intervention funds following the January 2024 explosion in Ibadan.

Fayose disclosed the documents on Sunday, days after making the allegation during a national television interview and following a public challenge by Governor Makinde for him to provide evidence of the claim.

According to Fayose, the documents show that the Federal Government approved and released the funds to Oyo State as intervention support for victims of the explosion, though he alleged that only ₦4.5 billion was eventually paid to affected victims.

The former governor alleged that the remaining funds were diverted for other purposes, linking the alleged diversion to Makinde’s political ambitions and the ongoing internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Fayose said he was compelled to make the documents public in the interest of transparency, despite describing the disclosure of official records as contrary to his usual practice.

He also challenged Governor Makinde to seek legal redress if he believed the allegations were false, insisting that he was prepared to defend his claims in court.

Fayose further alleged that the Oyo State Government received additional intervention funds from the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu which, he said, were not fully disclosed to the public.

He added that he was in possession of documents relating to the actual internally generated revenue of Oyo State, which he claimed differed from figures publicly stated by the state government, noting that further disclosures would be made at a later time.
