The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has issued a formal appeal to motorists and airport users for patience following the full implementation of the Go Cashless programme at the access gates of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA).
The initiative, which aligns with the Federal Government’s directive on cashless transactions, officially commenced today but was met with significant traffic build-up.
FAAN noted that despite extensive prior publicity, a large number of motorists attempted to register for their mandatory cards at the gates this morning, putting immense pressure on toll lanes and resulting in temporary gridlock.
To mitigate the inconvenience and stabilize the transition, the Authority has deployed additional personnel to the access gates and increased the number of registration points to fast-track first-time card issuance.
FAAN emphasized that while initial adjustment challenges were anticipated, the transition is designed to provide long-term benefits such as faster processing, improved transparency, and reduced risks associated with cash handling.
Motorists who have yet to obtain their Go Cashless cards are urged to take advantage of the expanded registration support and plan their visits ahead of time to ensure a more seamless airport experience.
