…Tasks them on integrity, grassroots development
The Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government Area, Princess Surah Animashaun, has inaugurated a new set of councillors representing various wards across the council, calling on them to serve with honour, discipline, and commitment to the people.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the council’s headquarters in Epe, Lagos State, where Princess Animashaun emphasised the pivotal role councillors play in shaping inclusive and sustainable governance at the grassroots level.
She appealed to the newly inaugurated councillors to treat their positions as a responsibility entrusted by the electorate, rather than a privilege, stressing the need for integrity, dedication, and transparency in the discharge of their duties.
“I implore you to approach your duties with focus and a genuine desire to serve. Our people are watching and expecting your best,” she said.
The Council Chairman called for greater cooperation and alignment between the councillors and her administration, urging them to work hand-in-hand to realise the development vision mapped out for Epe.
“Let us foster synergy and form strategic partnerships that will bring real development to our local government. Upholding the rule of law is vital to democracy, and you must be steadfast in building a more resilient and forward-looking council that is free of acrimony,” Princess Animashaun said.
She reminded the councillors of the example set by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, whom she described as a model of visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people.
“You all know what our leader and mentor, His Excellency Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represents. His dedication to improving the lives of Lagosians should inspire you. To whom much is given, much is expected,” she remarked.
The Chairman also pledged her continued support to the councillors, promising to back efforts that promote good governance and tangible improvements in the lives of Epe residents.
She expressed appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu for what she described as his steadfast support and clear vision for a Lagos State that competes favourably with global counterparts.
The event drew a wide range of attendees, including community leaders, political stakeholders, and residents, many of whom voiced confidence in the newly constituted council’s ability to deliver on its mandate.
