The Ondo State Government has sanctioned the release of N3.5 billion as counterpart funding for the World Bank-supported Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), aimed at upgrading rural roads and improving agricultural logistics across the state.

The decision formed part of key resolutions reached during the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting held on Wednesday, 30 July 2025, chaired by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.

Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, who announced the funding approval, explained that the intervention is designed to overhaul access routes to markets in remote areas, with long-term economic benefits expected across all 18 local government areas.

“As we enter the implementation phase, engineers will be deployed to carry out hydraulic designs for efficient water flow and drainage control along targeted rural corridors. We are focused on durable infrastructure, not temporary solutions,” Olawoye said.

The Council also gave a green light for a state-wide flood mapping operation to identify and address vulnerable zones and environmental risks. Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Tob Loko, said the initiative is a proactive measure against the intensifying impact of climate change.

“We’re applying a data-driven approach to locate at-risk areas and understand the underlying causes. The aim is to respond intelligently before calamity hits,” Dr. Loko explained.

He added that while emphasis remains on prevention, the state has contingency plans for unexpected flooding, including emergency shelter and distribution of relief supplies for displaced residents.

Also announced at the EXCO meeting was the approval of two traditional leadership appointments. Prince Olusola Joseph Ajaka was named the inaugural Gbogunro of Idi-Ogba Alagbon in Ilaje Local Government Area, while Prince Isiaka Oseni has been confirmed as the new Alale of Akungba-Akoko, in Akoko South West Local Government Area.

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, confirmed that both selections were made in accordance with customary traditions and statutory procedures before receiving the council’s final endorsement.

Speaking further, Commissioner for Information, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, described the series of approvals as a demonstration of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to grassroots development, and called on residents to maintain their support as the administration prepares to unveil more transformative projects.
