News Engineering, in partnership with Mahashakti, has indicated interest in the Niger State Solar Energy Development Project.

The Managing Director of News Engineering, Lady Josephine Nwaeze, stated this when she led a delegation from the company and its partner on a visit to Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago at the state liaison office in Abuja.

She said their visit was to showcase the company’s capacity to handle the 100-megawatt solar energy project, which will be funded by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).

The Managing Director noted that the state government is doing well in security partnerships for the development of the state, and the company desires to be part of the success story.

In his presentation on why the company is best suited for the solar project, the business development manager of the company, Eng. Henry Akoji, explained that News Engineering’s technical partner, Mahashakti, has decades of experience.

He said News Engineering has completed over 1,000 electrical installation projects in Nigeria, ranging from transmission and distribution lines to statewide rural electrification and over a million dollars’ worth of procurement.

Eng. Akoji said the company has executed over 100 projects in solar mini-grids and has already distributed about 5,000 solar home systems.

He stated that the company’s services include electricity generation, design and construction of substations, construction and upgrade of transmission lines, renewable energy solutions, project management, company consultancy, rural electrification, and training and capacity building, among others.

Also speaking, a director at Mahashakti Energy, Ashok Kansal, said the company is an expert in loss reduction.

“In India, we have reduced more than 30 to 40% losses. We are working in three fields together. We are in solar, we are in evacuation, and we are in the distribution network and reduction of losses, which is the crux, so that the distribution network should be sustainable to take the energy for 24 hours,” he said.

In his response, the Executive Governor of Niger State, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, commended News Engineering and Mahashakti Energy for their presentations.

He said the state government will critically review some of the projects executed by the company before taking a decision.
