A governorship aspirant under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele David-Adesua, has cautioned the electorate against allowing themselves to be deceived by rice and cash handouts from politicians during electioneering campaigns.

David-Adesua made the remark on Saturday at his hometown, Ijesa Isu-Ekiti, while formally declaring his intention to contest for the ADC governorship ticket ahead of the 2026 election.

He urged voters to reject the culture of inducement, which, according to him, had over the years produced incompetent leaders and stunted the state’s development.

“Do not be deceived with bags of rice and little cash during electioneering, which may make people change their minds from voting for the right leader. Shun these enticements and vote right for development in the forthcoming election,” he said.

The aspirant lamented that the consequences of vote-buying had continued to manifest in poor governance, economic hardship, and underdevelopment across the state.

He commended the ADC leadership, fellow aspirants, and supporters for their presence at the declaration event, describing it as a testament to the unity and readiness of the party to take over power in Ekiti State.

David-Adesua also reaffirmed his commitment to people-centered leadership, promising that the ADC would provide a credible alternative to the ruling parties in the state.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed October 20 to November 10, 2025, for political parties to conduct their primaries ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.
