Ejigbo Chairman leads clean-up, warns residents against illegal refuse dumping

Residents of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Saturday joined the monthly environmental sanitation exercise as the Executive Chairman, Aare Taoheed Adebayo Taiwo (TAT), spearheaded a large-scale clean-up campaign aimed at improving public health, preventing flooding and promoting environmental responsibility across the council area.

Speaking during the exercise, Aare Taiwo emphasised that environmental sanitation should not be limited to the monthly exercise but embraced as a daily responsibility by every resident.

He urged residents, traders, transport operators and community leaders to maintain clean surroundings, stressing that proper waste disposal and regular clearing of drainage channels are essential to protecting public health and reducing the risk of flooding.

“Environmental sanitation is not a one-day exercise but a daily responsibility. Every resident has a role to play in keeping our environment clean. When we dispose of waste properly and keep our drainage channels free from obstruction, we are protecting our health, preserving our environment and securing the future of our community,” the Chairman said.

The council boss warned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainage channels and along roadsides, describing the practice as a major cause of blocked drains and flooding, especially during the rainy season.

He disclosed that the council’s waste compactor truck is regularly deployed to evacuate refuse from identified black spots across the LCDA as part of ongoing efforts to maintain a cleaner and healthier environment.

Aare Taiwo assured residents that the council would sustain its environmental sanitation drive while urging members of the public to complement government efforts by using approved waste collection channels and shunning illegal refuse dumping.

The Chairman was accompanied by the Vice Chairman, the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), the Council Manager, councillors, supervisors, management staff, Community Development Committee (CDC) leaders, APC stakeholders, members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), EKO 57 and other stakeholders.

The exercise covered Ailegun Road and other strategic locations within Ejigbo LCDA, featuring refuse evacuation, clearing of blocked drainage channels and extensive environmental clean-up aimed at improving sanitation across the community.
