The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) , Anambra Command, has deployed 750 personnel across the state to ensure a hitch-free Eid-El Maulid:celebration.
Mr Olatunde Maku, the State Commandant, NSCDC, said this in a statement issued on Monday in Awka by the command’s spokesman, SC. Edwin Okadigbo.
Maku said that the deployment was part of strategic security measures put in place ahead of the celebration on Tuesday.
According to him, Area Commanders and Divisional Officers have been directed to ensure robust deployment of personnel and resources to strategic locations in the state.
Maku said the personnel would be deployed to critical national assets and infrastructure, places of worship, markets, motor parks, major junctions, recreational centres and other public gathering points.
Maku said that the deployment was also aimed at preventing criminal activities, particularly vandalism of critical infrastructure and other public assets.
“Eid-El Maulid is a season that reminds us of compassion, humility and service to humanity.
“As a corps, we are duty bound to ensure that residents and worshippers observe the celebration in a peaceful atmosphere without fear of breakdown of law and order.
“We have a mandate of safeguard lives and property during the period,” he said.
He added that the Special Female Squad, Counter Terrorism Unit, Agro Rangers Unit and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives Unit had been placed on red alert to respond swiftly to any security threat.
The commandant urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with the NSCDC and other security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities in their communities.
He further called on Muslim faithful to celebrate with restraint and use the occasion to pray for peace, unity and progress of Nigeria.
Eid-El Maulid is in remembrance of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and is observed as a period of compassion, tolerance, unity and mutual respect.
