Operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday arrested 28 suspected internet fraudsters in Ilorin.
This was made known in a statement made available to newsmen in Ilorin on Tuesday by the Head of the Media Unit, Ilorin Zonal Directorate, Mr Tunde Ayodele.
The statement said the arrests followed credible intelligence from members of the public linking the suspects to cybercrime activities across the state capital. The suspects were picked at Tanke, University Road, Oshin, and Agbabiaka areas of the state capital.
It added that during the sting operation, about seven exotic cars, including a latest model Toyota Corolla and a Lexus, two motorcycles, as well as expensive phones and laptops believed to be tools of the suspects’ illicit trade were recovered from them.
The Commission also stated that the suspects would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigations to unravel the level of involvement of the suspects.
The Commission reiterated its commitment towards reducing cybercrime activities in the state and further solicited the support of stakeholders to bring such crimes to a bare minimum.
“Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Ilorin Zonal Directorate, will not tolerate any acts of sabotage from anyone, as all the relevant stakeholders, including sister agencies, will be involved in the fight for a better Nigeria,” the statement added.
