The Ede North Local Government, under the leadership of Executive Chairman Hon. Elliot Adeyemi, has officially flagged off the construction of the proposed Chief Amusa Lawal Akogun Shopping Complex.
Situated at the bustling Oja Timi area in Ede, Osun State, the modern commercial edifice is designed to stimulate the local economy while immortalizing the contributions of one of the community’s most distinguished sons.
The project, which features a contemporary multi-storey architectural design, aligns with the broader development goals of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and enjoys the high-profile endorsement of national and state leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister for Blue and Marine Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola.
The naming of the complex serves as a posthumous tribute to the late Alhaji Chief Amusa Ayinla Lawal, a man whose life was a masterclass in community service and pioneering entrepreneurship.
Born in 1910 and trained as a qualified nurse at Wesley Guide College, Ilesa, Chief Lawal was a trailblazer who established the first Patient Medicine Store in the area, later becoming the Life Patron of the Ede Medicine Sellers Association. His political impact was equally significant, serving as the Organizing Secretary for the defunct Action Group led by Chief Obafemi Awolowo and later as the unopposed Chairman of the Ede North Local Government Council between 1980 and 1983.
Known popularly as “Double Chief,” his legacy is defined by his successful efforts in reclaiming community lands during historical disputes and his role as the Asiwaju Akogun of Ede land.
As construction commences, the Ede North Local Government has reaffirmed its commitment to timely completion and quality assurance.
Once completed, the shopping complex is expected to transform the Oja Timi corridor into a premier commercial destination, ensuring that the name of “Double Chief” continues to be associated with the progress and prosperity of Ede land.
