Don’t associate with opposition members — APC Chieftain tells party leaders

Published

on

The South-South Zonal Organising Secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Blessing Agbomhere, has appealed to the party’s leaders to be wary of associating with opposition party leaders, ahead of the 2023 general election.

He said this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

Agbomhere said that the frequent visit of APC stalwarts to Rivers and the way they have been associating with Gov. Nyesom Wike was worrisome.

He said although Wike may be criticising Rotimi Amaechi, the former Minister of Transportation in public, he secretly appreciates his achievements.

According to Agbomhere, the Rivers Governor also appreciates the enviable development strides of Sen. Bola Tinubu, the APC 2023 presidential candidate, Sen. Kashim Shettima his Vice–Presidential running mate and President Muhammadu Buhari.

“As a result of our performance, if Wike wants to join the party, he must come in through the front door.

“We will receive him and save him from those he claimed wanted to destroy his political future,” Agbomhere said.

He added that the frequent invitation of APC Chieftains to commission projects in Rivers by Wike does not augur well for the expected victory of the party in the state and at national level in the 2023 election.

The zonal scribe said the influx of APC Chieftains to Rivers, could affect the moral of its members in the state while boosting that of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members.

He said the worst aspect of APC chieftain’s visit to Rivers was that they failed to identify with the party’s leadership and members in the state whenever they visited.

“We want to call on APC national leadership to urgently call some party Chieftains who are now flocking to Rivers and maintaining unholy alliances with Wike in the name of commissioning projects to order.

“While there is nothing wrong with inviting a highly placed personality to commission unfinished projects, everything is wrong if such uncompleted projects are being used as campaign stunts ahead of a crucial national election.

“By identifying with an opposition party at this time, such leaders are indirectly de-marketing our great party, especially in a state controlled by the opposition PDP,” he said.

Agbomhere said that the influx of such APC chieftains into Rivers was discouraging to the party members who were striving and strategising daily on how to win positions at the 2023 general election.

He said that the earlier the unholy pilgrimage of APC highly revered stalwarts to Rivers was nipped in the bud, the better its chances in the 2023 election in the state.

The party scribe said that Rivers was critical for APC in winning the 2023 presidential, governorship and legislative election in the South-South.

“We cannot afford to promote the policies and projects of an opposition ruling party in a state on the one hand and expect to win elections in that state as an opposition party,” Agbomhere said.

He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his support for all APC candidates towards winning the 2023 election in every state of the federation.

He also lauded the Sen. Abdullahi Adamu-led APC National Working Committee (NWC) for working round the clock to ensure that the party emerged victorious at all levels in the 2023 general election.

A former governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

In his resignation letter addressed to the PDP chairman in Mbutu Ward, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of the state, Ihedioha cited a misalignment between his personal beliefs and the current trajectory of the main opposition party.

The former governor expressed his dedication to the advancement of democracy and good governance in the country despite his decision to step away from PDP.

According to Ihedioha, having been a member of the party since its inception in 1998, he has contributed immensely to the growth and evolution of the party.

The former governor, however, lamented recent developments within the PDP, stating that it has deviated from its core principles.

He voiced concerns over the party’s inability to enact internal reforms, uphold its own regulations, and effectively oppose the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

“Regrettably, in recent times, the party has taken on a path that is at variance with my personal beliefs. Despite my attempt to offer counsel, the party is, sadly, no longer able to carry out internal reforms, enforce its own rules or offer credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress.’

“It is in the light of the foregoing, that I am compelled to offer my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party effective immediately.

“While the decision was difficult to take, I, however, believe that it is the right one. Despite this resignation, I will always be available to offer my services towards the deepening of democracy and good governance in Nigeria”, the letter added.

The LP chairman also enjoined all the aggrieved party stakeholders to think of the party above all other interests.

Ignore Ganduje’s purported suspension – Kano APC

Published

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Kano State chapter, has urged the public to ignore the purported suspension of the national chairman of the party, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje.

The secretary of the party in the state, Alhaji Zakari Sarina, told the newsmen on Monday in Kano that the supposed suspension of Ganduje by any group of individuals was null and void.

He said the suspension, which was announced on Sunday by a faction of the party, came from non-members of the party.

“It is impracticable for non-members to slam a national officer with suspension without recourse to laid down procedures as enshrined in the party’s constitution.

“I must make it clear, that we are undeterred by the activities of these impostors because.

Their style lacks finesse and sophistication and has further exposed their political naivety where Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is an acclaimed master.

“From available records, those behind the latest oddity are political jobbers who have offered themselves for pecuniary benefits at behest of dignity“, Sarina alleged.

According to him, they don’t belong to progressive because a good thing party member will not work towards destroying a legitimate member who was governor for 8 years and rose to become a national chairman.

“It is because they are outsiders, they are simply not aware of the internal workings, or ground rules of the APC on disciplinary actions, hence they resort to poor strategy that cannot stand logic, and reasons.

“We from ward, local government level and state are solidly behind our leader who has contribute positively towards the political growth of our party’’, he told NAN.

Sarina alleged that leader of the group who announced the purported Ganduje’s suspension was a member of New Nigeria People’s Party who contested but lost the counselorship election in Ganduje ward.

He advised the media to be cautious of those who seek to use their platforms to promote falsehood.

“The media should, as a matter of fact, scrutinise issues that are of paramount to the growth of democracy by being the driver of democracy’’, he said.
