Dispatch rider dies in Lagos train crash

An unidentified dispatch rider has been reported dead after been crushed by a train on the rail track at PWD bus stop along Agege motor road in Lagos State.
The rider, as gathered, was about to cross the rail track to deliver customers’ items, when the train crushed him.
The tragic incident resulted in gridlock at the PWD bus stop and prevented motorists, who aimed to connect the Ikeja GRA through the link road from doing so.
To identify the deceased, policemen attached to the Lagos Police Command and other emergency responders have embarked on contacting tracing to notify the family of the deceased dispatch rider.
Eyewitnesses reported that the train collided with a motorcycle at a level crossing, killing the rider on the spot before continuing along its track.
Personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were among the first responders at the scene. They quickly cordoned off the area to prevent further accidents and ease traffic congestion. They were later joined by officers from the Shogunle Police Division and officials of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), who evacuated the victim’s remains.
Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described it as “a distressing reminder of the grave consequences of impatience and disregard for traffic safety rules, especially at railway level crossings.”
He extended condolences to the victim’s family and urged dispatch riders and motorists to strictly obey traffic regulations, remain patient, and exercise caution at railway intersections.
“We must learn to respect traffic signals and government-installed warning signs. Recklessness and haste have no reward on our roads,” Bakare-Oki warned.
He further reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to continuous public education, strict enforcement of traffic laws, and ongoing safety advocacy to promote discipline and sanity on Lagos roads.
