Nigerian industrialist and philanthropist, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has reaffirmed his unwavering support for the Super Eagles by redeeming his pledge of $500,000, despite the team’s failure to clinch the ultimate prize in their recent international campaign.
In a statement addressed to the players on Tuesday, the Chairman of BUA Group lauded the team’s courage, resilience, and commitment.
He noted that their performance reflected the indomitable fighting spirit of Nigeria and brought immense pride to millions of citizens, regardless of the final outcome.
Rabiu acknowledged the disappointment that followed the team’s exit but emphasized that success in sports should not be measured solely by trophies.
According to him, the Super Eagles demonstrated exemplary unity, discipline, and determination throughout the tournament.
“You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage and determination on the pitch. Though it was not meant to be this time, you have made every Nigerian proud,” he stated.
He remarked that football, much like life, does not always reward effort with immediate results, stressing that the character and dedication displayed by the team remain enduring victories.
“Sometimes, even our best efforts do not bring the outcome we hope for, but the spirit, passion, and unity you displayed are what truly matter,” Rabiu added.
Confirming the release of the funds, the businessman described the $500,000 reward as a token of appreciation for the players’ hard work, sacrifices, and the joy they brought to the nation during the competition.
The gesture has been welcomed by sports stakeholders and fans, who view it as a morale booster that encourages a culture of valuing commitment and national service beyond just match results.
Looking to the future, Rabiu expressed confidence in the potential of the squad, urging the team to draw strength from the lessons of the campaign.
“Keep your heads high. The experience, lessons, and spirit will fuel even greater success next time. Nigeria will always be proud of you, and we believe in your future victories,” he concluded.
Although the tournament ended without a title, the Super Eagles’ campaign is widely seen to have rekindled national enthusiasm for football, once again highlighting the sport’s role as a unifying force across the country.
