In a major move to enforce regulatory standards, the Commission Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, has declared a target to achieve 100 percent compliance with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) within the next 12 months.

Speaking at the stakeholder meeting in Lagos, Eyesan emphasized that full implementation of the PIA is central to her vision for a governed and sustainable industry.

To underscore the seriousness of this mandate, she revealed that a dedicated monitoring team has been established and is situated directly within her office to oversee the process.

“One of my key goals is to ensure 100 percent adherence to the Petroleum Industry Act within 12 months,” Eyesan stated.

She further announced that the Commission will adopt a transparent approach to tracking this goal.

“The Commission, going forward, will issue quarterly progress reports,” she promised, ensuring that stakeholders and the public are kept informed of the industry’s compliance status.

This push for compliance extends to social obligations as well.

Eyesan highlighted the importance of the Host Community Development Trust (HCDT), encouraging all operators to liaise with the Commission ahead of planned engagements with host community leaders. These engagements are aimed at reaffirming the industry’s commitment to the development of host communities as stipulated by the PIA.
