Delta@35: Oborevwori urges Deltans to embrace unity

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on Deltans to remain united and committed to building a more prosperous and competitive state as Delta marks its 35th anniversary.

Oborevwori made the call on Wednesday at the 35th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service held at the Government House Chapel in Asaba, where he joined residents to give thanks to God for the journey so far.

The governor expressed gratitude for what he described as God’s sustaining grace over Delta State, while acknowledging the contributions of past governors, traditional rulers, communities, and citizens to the state’s development.

He noted that the anniversary was not only a celebration but also an opportunity to reflect on Delta’s achievements and recognize those who helped lay the foundation for its growth.

“The ambition is not merely to preserve what was inherited, but to build a more prosperous, secure, inclusive, and competitive Delta,” he said.

Oborevwori assured that his administration would continue investing in key sectors that enhance the quality of life for residents and strengthen the state’s economy.

He highlighted infrastructure, education, healthcare, human capital development, agriculture, and technology as priority areas, emphasizing the need for stronger institutions and expanded opportunities for businesses and young people.

The governor also urged Deltans to maintain peace and unity, noting that development can only be sustained when citizens work together despite their differences.

“We must remain united in turning the potential of our state into lasting prosperity,” he said.

Oborevwori further acknowledged the role played by traditional institutions and local communities in preserving peace and supporting development initiatives across the state.

He noted that the progress recorded over the past 35 years is the collective result of contributions from various administrations and successive generations of Deltans.

The governor urged citizens to look beyond past achievements and focus on building a stronger future for generations to come.

The thanksgiving service provided an opportunity for government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders to celebrate Delta State’s journey since its creation while reflecting on the responsibilities ahead.

Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to pursuing policies and programmes that create opportunities, strengthen security, and position Delta for sustainable growth.
