Deadly pre-rally attack: Two killed, two fighting for life as gunmen open fire on APC gathering in Ilesa

Tragedy struck in Ilesa, Osun State, on Tuesday morning when gunmen opened fire on All Progressives Congress (APC) members gathering for their final campaign rally, leaving two supporters dead and two others in critical condition.

The violence erupted around 7:30 a.m. at the Igbogi area of town, just thirty minutes before the scheduled start of the procession. According to a local witness, attackers armed with pump-action rifles stormed the assembly point and began shooting indiscriminately into the crowd of converging supporters.

Oluremi Omowaiye, head of media for the APC Campaign Council, confirmed the casualty count, noting that among those critically injured was the party’s Ilesa woman leader, who was rushed to Wesley Guild Hospital for emergency treatment.

The incident follows heightened political tension in the area, occurring just days after a separate shooting involving regional security operatives.

Spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, stated that authorities are currently investigating the attack and will provide additional details as findings emerge.
