A routine afternoon turned into a dramatic confrontation at Iya Femi Restaurant in Minna, Niger State, on Friday, when a targeted victim successfully fought back against a gang of armed robbers.
The victim, who had reportedly just made a substantial cash withdrawal from a nearby Taj Bank branch, was dining at the restaurant when the assailants struck. The gang, who had allegedly trailed the man from the bank, attempted to rob him at gunpoint.
In a stunning display of courage, the victim engaged one of the attackers in a physical struggle. During the brawl, he managed to disarm the gunman and fired, wounding one of the suspects.
Despite the victim’s defensive actions, the remaining members of the gang managed to escape the scene. Before fleeing, they successfully stole the victim’s vehicle and approximately ₦10 million in cash.
“The victim was very brave,” an eyewitness at the restaurant stated. “He struggled with one of them, took the gun, and shot him. The others ran away with his car and money.”
Police authorities in Minna have confirmed the incident and have launched a formal investigation. The wounded suspect is currently in custody and receiving medical treatment under police guard, while detectives continue to hunt for the remaining members of the gang.
The victim was reported to be physically unharmed following the ordeal. The incident has intensified local discourse regarding the rising wave of criminal activity and security vulnerabilities in Minna, particularly for bank customers in the region.
