The Senate Committee on Public Accounts has summoned the former Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, over N210Tn the company reportedly failed to properly account for between 2017 and 2023.
The committee, led by Sen. Aliyu Wadada, also summoned former Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Umar Ajiya Isa, and the former Group General Manager (GGM) of the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), Bala Wunti. The summons followed a review of audit queries concerning the financial records of the national oil company.
According to the committee, the sum under investigation includes N103Tn and N107Tn highlighted in audit reports. Sen. Wadada warned that if the former officials fail to appear before the committee on the scheduled date, a warrant of arrest could be issued against them.
The committee further directed the current management of the NNPCL, led by GCEO Bayo Ojulari, to appear before the panel alongside the external auditors who handled the company’s accounts during the period under review.
