CP orders manhunt for suspected killers of 2 Awka residents
The Commissioner of Police (CP) in Anambra, Mr Nnanna Ama, has ordered a manhunt for the suspected killers of two persons in separate attacks by unidentified gunmen in Awka.
The directive is contained in a statement issued on Monday by the command’s Spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, and made available to newsmen in Awka.
According to Ikenga, the command condemned in the strongest terms the gunshot attacks carried out by unidentified gunmen in the capital city on Sunday, which resulted in the death of two persons.
“The command has consequently intensified the ongoing manhunt for the perpetrators and is calling for the support and cooperation of members of the public to assist in bringing the suspects to justice,” he added.
He stated that information gathered so far revealed that three unidentified persons, travelling in a silver-colour Toyota Corolla, reportedly shot two persons at separate locations within Awka.
He said that upon the receipt of the distress information, the command’s operatives “immediately mobilised patrol teams to the affected areas and commenced efforts to track down the assailants.
“Upon arrival at the scenes, the operatives recovered the bodies of the victims on Capital City Road, Amaenyi, and S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo, Awka, respectively.
“The victims were taken to a nearby hospital, where they were confirmed dead by medical personnel,” he added.
The CP explained that one of the victims was identified as Isaac Nwosu, known as Azia, while the command is making efforts to identify the second victim.
He further explained that the operatives also recovered ₦7,550, one Moniepoint Automated Teller Machine card and a pair of slippers from the scenes.
Ama condemned the dastardly act and described it as unacceptable and a direct affront to the peace and security in the state.
The CP further directed the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for discreet and comprehensive investigation.
He also directed the security operatives to intensify patrols, surveillance and intelligence gathering across Awka and adjoining towns and communities.
The command called on community leaders, residents, motorists, business owners and other members of the public, who witnessed the incidents or have credible information regarding the suspects, their movements or the vehicle used in the attacks to come forward and assist the police.
He gave assurance that such information “will be treated with utmost confidentiality”.
The command reiterated that community partnership was critical to effective policing and urged residents not to hesitate to provide timely and credible information that would assist in apprehending the perpetrators and preventing further attacks.
