Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has charged Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state to work towards achieving the N870 billion Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) target outlined in the 2026 budget, citing global geopolitical tensions and uncertainties surrounding external revenue sources.
The governor gave the directive on Monday during a Holy Mass held at the Government House Chapel to formally commence official activities for the new year across government offices.
Mbah noted that prevailing global developments have made revenues from sources such as the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) increasingly unpredictable, stressing the need for the state to strengthen its domestic revenue base to avoid economic shocks.
Recall that the governor recently signed a record N1.62 trillion 2026 budget, projected to be funded through N870 billion in IGR, N387 billion from FAAC, and N329 billion in capital receipts.
Addressing political office holders, civil servants and other stakeholders at the event, Mbah urged them to redouble their efforts, explaining that the ability to meet the ambitious IGR target would largely depend on the quality and efficiency of services rendered to businesses and residents of the state.
According to him, achieving the revenue projection requires renewed vigour, dedication and improved service delivery across all MDAs, especially in the face of global uncertainties.
The governor described civil servants as the engine room of the administration, stressing that punctuality, teamwork, prompt processing of documents and professionalism would play a critical role in the success or failure of the government’s plans in 2026.
He also emphasised the importance of collaboration, noting that the state’s progress depends on collective effort and shared responsibility in serving the people.
Mbah thanked residents of Enugu State and the church for their prayers, counsel and continued support, while calling for honest and constructive feedback to help the administration improve its performance.
He said his government does not claim perfection but remains resolute in its commitment to optimal service delivery and accountability.
In his homily, the Chaplain of the Government House Chapel, Rev. Fr. Anthony Udeh, described Governor Mbah as a servant leader dedicated to the welfare of the people.
He cited the administration’s completed and ongoing projects, as well as its reforms, as evidence of a genuine commitment to building a better future for the state.
The Holy Mass was attended by top government officials and stakeholders, including Deputy Governor Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai; Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uchenna Ugwu; Chief Judge of Enugu State, Justice Afojulu Ozoemena; and the Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Igwe Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu, among others.
