Bayero University, Kano (BUK) says it will host its International Conference and Doctoral Colloquium, bringing together experts to discuss sustainable governance and peace.

The forum will focus on practical strategies to enhance economic resilience and promote lasting peace across Nigeria.

The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Prof. Kabir Tahir-Hamid, disclosed this at a press conference on Friday in Kano.

The newsmen report that the 5th conference, organised by the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences (FEMS), is scheduled to hold between Nov. 3 and 5 at the institution.

He said the theme of this year’s conference and colloquium is: “Sustainable Governance and the Green Economy: Strategies for Addressing Insecurity and Promoting Inclusive Development in Africa.”

Prof. Tahir-Hamid said the theme reflected the urgent need to address the interconnected challenges of insecurity, poverty, unemployment, environmental degradation and economic instability confronting Nigeria and other African countries.

“The conference will provide a platform for academics, policymakers, government officials, business leaders and development practitioners to exchange ideas, share research findings and explore practical strategies for promoting sustainable governance, economic resilience, peace and inclusive development,” he said.

He noted that the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Haruna Musa, would be the Chief Host, while the Chairman, Bank of Industry, Dr Mansur Mukhtar, would be the Chairman of the occasion.

The LOC chairman added that two keynote addresses would be delivered by Dr Umaru Kwairanga, Chairman, Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, and Mr Saleh Abubakar, Director-General, National Agency for the Great Green Wall.

He further revealed that the first lead paper presentation would be delivered by Prof. Auwalu Haruna, Director, Business School, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Elvis Tangam, the UNDP Climate, Peace and Security Adviser, United Nations Climate Security Mechanism, would make the second presentation.

According to him, the conference will examine strategies for strengthening governance, institutional accountability and sector effectiveness.

He added that it would also explore the relationship between insecurity, economic development, environmental sustainability and social inclusion.

Tahir-Hamid further said the conference would also promote green growth, sustainable investments, climate finance and responsible resource management, among others.

“Nigeria and Africa require collective action, innovative thinking and practical solutions.

“Universities have a critical responsibility to generate knowledge that informs public policy and contributes to societal development,” he said.
