The Managing Director of UBA Foundation, Mrs Bola Atta, is mourning the passing of her beloved sister, Mrs Lola Adefope (née Ayantuga), who died recently.
Lola was born on 14 September 1962 in London, England, to Senator Obafemi Ayantuga and his wife, Ajoke Ayantuga, a chartered accountant. She carved out a distinguished career in public service, with over three decades of dedicated contribution. She notably served as Secretary to the Local Government in Lagos State and later as Senior Special Assistant in Ogun State.
Widely admired for her warmth, signature laughter and vibrant spirit, she was remembered fondly by many as the “life and soul of any gathering.”
Among those who paid tribute was former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, who expressed profound sorrow over her death.
“I received the news of the passing of Lola Adefope with great sadness and pain,” he said.
“As Governor, she served as my Special Assistant on Governmental Affairs (Lagos Office), where she proved herself to be both efficient and committed.”
He added, “Her death is a stark reminder of life’s brevity and represents a significant personal loss to me and to the country she served with passion.”
Daniel also offered prayers for her eternal rest and for strength and comfort to her bereaved family.
Lola was a devoted wife and mother. She married architect Adebola Adefope in 1992, and their union was blessed with children.
Her interment is scheduled for 23 June 2025 at Michael and All Angels, Flower Lane, Mill Hill, London. The burial will commence at 1 p.m., followed by a celebration of life at Hendon Golf Club, London.
