…says court ruling affirms position
The Osun State Government has clarified that the recent ruling of the Court of Appeal regarding the Akinrun Chieftaincy Stool perfectly mirrors the administration’s established position, which was previously outlined in its Executive Order, Chieftaincy Committee Report, and subsequent White Paper.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Olufemi Ogundun in a press statement issued on Wednesday emphasized that the Akinrun stool remains legally vacant, clarifying that the appellate court did not direct the installation or official recognition of any individual for the throne of Ikirun.
The state Government maintained that it remains neutral as it awaits the final determination of the matter by the Court of Appeal, following a legal challenge initiated by the Gboleru Ruling House which has now drawn in the remaining two ruling families.
The state government further warned individuals against falsely parading themselves as the Akinrun of Ikirun or inciting actions that could breach public peace.
The government warned that any person found instigating unrest or breaking the law within the community will face severe legal consequences.
Reaffirming its commitment to the peace, harmony, and structural growth of Ikirun land, the state government promised to ensure absolute adherence to due process.
It urged residents and all competing royal families to remain calm and law-abiding while the judicial process runs its full course, noting that all interested parties have already submitted their grievances to the court.
